• Firefox Web Browser - Firefox is more secure than Internet Explorer, and more standards-compliant. It has less problems (and problems are easier to fix), because it isn't built-in to Windows. It's also more secure and less vulnerable to unpreventable 'drive-by' attacks. There are literally thousands of extensions that will do everything from tell you the weather (more useful than it sounds) to block ads. Check out 'Adblock Plus', 'NoScript', 'StumbleUpon', 'Cooliris Preview', and 'Forecastfox'. Just Connected highly recommends this browser, and this site works best in Firefox.
• AVG Free edition - Ever thought you could get a top-notch antivirus program for free, with no strings? AVG Free is what the owner of Just Connected uses on his home machine! The reason they do this is because they have an unobtrusive text ad urging you to buy the full version, which includes a firewall. But the free version has a 'realtime' scanner, which means that any files that you work with or programs you try to run are scanned when you use them. It'll prevent you from running a virus, and will also scan your computer every night (by default). It includes free lifetime updates, which are updated every night.
